Pene has a dry ice machine and a jetpack in his…grab a perfectini at the velvet bar in the missile silo…A refuge, perhaps dark and even devoid of the distractions of the beautiful life. We cannot retreat to purity unless we have the opulence. Pene’s palace is the contrast between crystal chandeliers and stone cellar walls, between clarity and incoherence. Connecting them, the stairwell, at once a descent and a return.
